Millennium.Com Ash Dudukia, president of OMNITEK Information Systems addressed how the Internet is changing business, communication, and cataloging. He opened with a comparison of rates of adoption for new technologies. The radio took 38 years to become ubiquitous, according to Dudukia, but the Internet took only four. The revolution is at home as well as at the office, "Now, when my daughter has a report to complete for school, she does research on the Internet, instead of at the library," he said. Companies now communicate through the Internet, e-mail, cell phones, and personal digital assistants in addition to publications and printed pieces. This means companies have to become quicker to survive in the changing society, Dudukia said. Dudukia predicted that huge changes were coming for the distribution chain, thanks to the Internet, and it would be greatly simplified. Innovations in distribution, such as several private brands from one manufacturer, are also possibilities for the future. Omnitek Information Systems, Inc., Dudukia's company, is based in California and Kentucky, with a substantial block of employees based in India. "Companies are being forced to change how they grow revenues, reduce expenses, meet competition, and serve clients, all for one reason: To survive in the new global economy," Dudukia said.
